Description
The school-year long schitu’umsh Scholars Program will immerse students in place-based learning to deepen a relationship with their homeland, while understanding how legal and political conflicts impact environmental and community health. In addition to the decolonizing focus of the curriculum, the program will also teach students to develop college-ready, skills such as; time management, organization, good note taking, effective online searching, and more.
The program is offered to students in grades 8-12 as an online course, with regular face-to-face video sessions between students and their mentors, focusing on academic coaching to assist students in becoming scholars through their educational achievement. Mentoring teams will include Department of Education staff, Tribal community members, Native undergraduate/graduate students, and Native scholars.
