Tribal Waters Overview

The Lake Management Department ensures the protection and enhancement of Coeur d’Alene Lake and its surrounding watershed. Our goal is to increase its cultural, spiritual, subsistence and recreational benefits to the Coeur d’Alene Tribe and neighboring communities. Our charter covers both on-Reservation and ceded portions of Coeur d’Alene Lake.

The Lake Management Department promotes the sovereignty and interests of the Tribe at local, regional and national levels. We make every effort to restore, enhance and preserve the aquatic resources for present and future generations.

The Lake Management Department supports the Tribal Natural Resources Department programs, primarily water resources, fisheries and NRDA, in the planning, design and implementation of management initiatives. The Department aids the Tribal Council in managing and controlling the use and occupancy of Tribal waters and underlying lands, to protect the resources, Tribal interests and the public health, safety and welfare.

We restore, enhance and preserve the aquatic habitats of Tribal trust territories for the benefit of plant and animal species and the members of the Tribe.
