The Coeur d’Alene Tribe applied for and was awarded funds to develop a Comprehensive Tribal Justice Strategic Plan (CTJSP) to address important public safety needs on the Coeur d’Alene Reservation. This was made possible through the U.S. Department of Justice Coordinated Tribal Assistance Solicitations (CTAS) grant program. The Coeur d’Alene Tribe developed and implemented this plan with members of a strategic planning committee, referred to as the Tribal Collaboration Committee (TCC). Partnerships with the local schools, community organizations, and community members also helped maximize the Plan’s effectiveness and success. The CTJSP was in effect between 2016-2022. A new, updated Strategic Plan was developed in 2024 that carries on the same mission: To respond to the realities, strengths, challenges, threats, and opportunities in our community and to provide culturally rooted tools and services to those impacted by substance abuse, violence & victimization, and mental health circumstances.
Members of TCC, including staff and Tribal leaders come together to discuss top issues on the reservation, often affecting loved ones who were/are active in the Tribal justice systems, affected by substance use, or reentering society from incarceration or rehabilitation. Each member of the TCC is personally affected by the issues of substance addiction, overdose, suicide, and crime and therefore personally invested in finding solutions!
The Tribal Council Chairman and Council Members, and the Administration Director serve as active members, providing guidance, information, and support to departments and organizations on a leadership level.
