The road to Native American’s gaining the right to vote begin in 1924 with the passage of the Indian Citizenship Act. This historical photo was taken in 1922 of a Coeur d’Alene Tribal encampment, only two years before the Indian Citizenship Act would start a long process of providing Native Americans a voice in the Federal Government, as Citizens of the United States. These rights were further cemented in 1965 with the Voting Rights Act.

@reallan90 Why should I vote in the November 5th general elections??? It is important to get out and vote as Native people. We did not always have this right. The local, state, and federal governments levels affect our tribal communities, we need to protect our homes, our rights, our culture, our tribal sovereignty, and our futures! REMEMBER TO VOTE NOVEMBER 5TH!! #cdatribe #nativesvote #nativevote #nativetikok #indigenouspride ♬ Native Puppy Love – The Halluci Nation
