Adult Vocational Training (AVT)
The Coeur d’Alene Tribe Adult Vocational Training program provides assistance with the associated costs in attending an accredited vocational technical institution to gain the skills and training necessary to secure employment.
Students are enrolled in a variety of training, including practical nursing, welding and business/office technology.
Eligibility
- Be a member of a federally recognized Tribe
- Reside on or near the Coeur d’Alene Indian Reservation
- Be between the ages of 18 and 35
- Make satisfactory progress toward program completion
What is Adult Vocational Training?
AVT provides funding to students interested in training for certificated programs. Vocational training programs are intended to prepare students for specific trades such as welding, mechanics, certified nurse’s aide, plumbing, carpentry etc. The programs may earn the student an Associate in Applied Science Degree or certification in a specific career skill.
Can I attend school part-time with the Adult Vocational Training Program?
Students may attend part time but will be eligible for limited funding and must be enrolled in an approved program.
How do I utilize the Adult Vocational Training Program?
To be considered for assistance through the Adult Vocational Training Program, Tribal members must submit a completed Adult Vocational Training Program Application including a written statement of educational goals and plans, a completed financial aid package, letter of acceptance from admissions, any high school/GED transcripts, completed college transcripts (if attended previously) as well as a copy of any financial aid award letters from the school you will be attending.
Why do I have to apply for financial aid if I already know I will qualify?
To apply for the Adult Vocational Training Program all students must apply for financial aid through FAFSA. The federal government provides funding to students for education based upon their income. If students are eligible for financial aid it can offset the cost of their education and make it possible for the Department of Education to fund additional students in vocational programs.
Direct Employment Grant Program
The Direct Employment Grant Program is designed to assist individuals with work
equipment or clothing to retain Full-Time Employment. An individual must meet
the qualifications listed:
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
- I am enrolled with a federally recognized Indian Tribe
- I am living on or within a 50 mile radius of the Coeur d’Alene Reservation
- I was hired within 30 days of submitting an application
- I was unemployed prior to being hired
- I am not transferring to another position within an organization
- I have not applied for this grant more than two (2) times during my lifetime
