ECLC

The Learning Environment

The goal of ECLC is to provide learning opportunities and activities. Each child is unique in their learning styles and their progression through the various stages of development.

The ECLC employs a multi-faceted curriculum, structured to introduce physical, social/emotional, and intellectual (cognitive) skills to the children. The Coeur d’Alene language and culture is an integral part of this structure.

The base curricula used by the EHS/Head Start Programs are The Creative Curriculum for Infants and Toddlers and The Creative Curriculum for Preschool. These curricula have been researched, field-tested and used programs across the United States for more than 10 years. They are developmentally and individually appropriate for young children.

ECLC uses add-on curricula, as appropriate, to enhance learning opportunities for the children. These include:

  • Handwriting Without Tears (beginning letter identification and formation for 3 & 4-year-old classrooms)
  • Woven Word (an early literacy program)
  • Second-Step Violence Prevention
  • Talking About Touching (personal safety)

Parent participation in the classroom is encouraged and greatly appreciated. Your participation in the classroom models to your child that you value the importance of their education, and your child will appreciate your participation as well.
